Festivals

There are an abundance of festivals that take place in Ireland throughout the year, the biggest of them all being St Patricks Day, March 17th. Other festivals on the Shannon Scenic Drive focus on the river, music, films, poetry, dance, cycling, hiking, architecture, watersports and many other activities. Festival Highlights

St Patrick’s Festival (17th March), most towns and villages on the Shannon

Most villages and towns on the Shannon Scenic Drive will have a St Patrick’s Day Parade with the largest taking place in Limerick City. The festival in Limerick also includes an International Marching Band Parade, usually a day or two after the St Patricks Day Parade.

Riverfest (Late April/Early May), Limerick

This free three day festival incorporates a BBQ competition, the Great Limerick Run marathon, half marathon and 10k races, water sports and races on the river, markets, fireworks displays and other activities. This is a great festival for all the family and a great celebration of the River Shannon!

Foynes Air Show (late July), Foynes

This is a free one day spectacular air show that take place in the skies above the Shannon Estuary and Foynes Harbour. It features amazing stunts from some the world’s top acrobatic pilots!

Kilrush Traditional Music and Set Dancing Festival, (July), Co Clare

This five day festival includes open air ceilis, tradional Irish singing and a boat trip to Scattery Island.

Loop Head Walking and Heritage Festival (late April/early May), Co Clare

Four days of walks and hikes in unspoilt scenery. Enjoy amazing views of the Shannon Estuary where it meets the Atlantic Ocean.

Feile Brian Boru Festival (late June/early July), Killaloe

This festival celebrates a great High King of Ireland and features water activities, art exhibitions, craft fairs and family fun.

Carrick-on-Shannon Water Music Festival (July), Co Leitrim

Experience 5 days of literary and artistic culture during this festival. It also includes family fun events too.
