Alternative routes and delightful detours: The locations above involve driving along the western short of Lough Allen (Arigna). Alternatively you may prefer to travel via the eastern shore of Lough Allen and take in Ballinagleragh and St Hugh’s Well. Another possible route between Drumshanbo and Leitrim Village is to briefly follow the Lough Allen Canal before it rejoins the Shannon River near Leitrim Village.
If you would like to explore this part of the Shannon Scenic Drive more consider completing the Lough Allen Tour which takes in both sides of the lake. Alternatively add in a delightful detour to your route such as visiting the Acres Lake Amenity Area which is part of the Shannon Blueway, Lough Key Forest Park or Boyle town and abbey. Another delightful detour option includes visiting more of the Marble Arches Caves UNESCO Global Geopark (which includes the Shannon Pot)
